Dear Mr. Rogge, I am writing as someone who is concerned about human rights conditions around world, and who is inspired by the ideals of the Olympic Games. The 2008 Olympic Games were awarded to Beijing in part because China promised to improve its human rights situation. However, with less than one year left before the Olympics begin, China has not fulfilled its promises. On the contrary, it has continued, and in some cases accelerated, human rights violations against the people inside its borders. In the case of East Turkistan, the Chinese government intensified its persecution of Uyghur people, including executions of Uyghur political prisoners, arbitrary arrests, torture, trafficking of mostly teenage Uyghur girls, and labor abuses. China should not be allowed to use the Olympic Games as an excuse to justify its repression in East Turkistan. In order to make Olympic ideals into reality, I respectfully ask the IOC to urge the Chinese government to change its behavior on human rights. In East Turkistan, China must stop supporting the trafficking of young Uyghur women to inner China, end religious repression and cultural destruction, and stop executing Uyghur political activists for their dissent. Thank you very much for your attention!
